My father sets up all of his guitars with our own Zager brand custom light 11-48 gauge but we have customers using all brands and gauges with excellent results. We do have many customers who were users of other brands move to the Zager brand after using them as they’re specifically designed by Denny exclusively for his guitars. My father doesn’t build classical nylon strung guitars because their necks are so wide (usually over 2 inches) it makes them really hard to play. Many players use the thumb of their left hand to form chords and classical guitar necks are so wide it makes impossible to do this. This may be why 90% of guitars today are steel strung. Many large handed players think they need a larger neck and that’s true to a point, but unfortunately their string spacing is still narrow so you’re still bumping strings and missing chords like on smaller necked guitars.
Zager guitars have custom string spacing and lower string heights that prevents you from bumping into adjacent strings, but the neck is still easy for all hand sizes. Combined with lower strings pressures so you barely have to press to form chords and all the other little things that Denny builds into his guitars and playability increases exponentially. If you read through our reviews you will find many players who used to play classical nylon strung guitars who now only play Zager.
